Gallery Manager- Marilyn Lavi

GALLERY MANAGER: MARILYN LAVI
(631) 549-5106

Mrs. Lavi first met b.j. spoke gallery artists in 1992, when they assisted her efforts to develop an ARTS-in-EDUCATION Gallery for CSHSD#2.  She was programming  Cultural Arts for the district, and the rest, as they say, was history. Marilyn is a world citizen who knows art can provide intellectual as well as visual stimulation; she believes gallery visitors should enjoy their experience. She has worn many hats as a professional dancer/teacher, college librarian, BOE co-ordinator, BSA adv. chair., AAUW speaker, college union official/negot., Prof. of grad. studies in Literacy and Creativity, and a proud grandmother. These skills met the managerial needs of the multifaceted galley.

COMMUNICATIONS: Mrs. Lavi acts as the hub for phone, visitor, email, and member questions.  She facilitates calendars, schedules, minutes, sales, and presents issues for a vote at monthly meetings. She also handles new memberships and room rentals. The gallery structure includes an Ex. Board, which she attends.

COMMITTEES: This co-op gallery functions on  members work power; Mrs. Lavi assists publicity, fund raising, computer, receptions, housekeeping, events, show ladders, and other areas, as needed. NPO / 501 (c)(3): As manager, Mrs. Lavi oversees the educational designation with public outreaches of book groups, musical or dramatic evenings, art demon- strations, film festivals, emerging artists, and aiding other groups fund raising efforts.

GROUP VISITS: Children, high school classes, college students, and senior citizen groups are welcome to ask for a gallery tour.  Informal talks about the art co-op business model and history, plus any questions about censorship, theme shows, democratic proceedings, art styles and mediums can be covered.  Often, a working artist will explain their process and point-of-view.  These visits provide important feedback to the artists, and lively discussions are encouraged.

CRAFTS: American crafts are integral to the gallery atmosphere.  Mrs. Lavi selects one-of-a-kind artisans specializing in wood, glass, pottery, textiles, leather, jewelry, or other materials – on a consignment basis.  As affiliates, these artisans become part of the gallery’s monthly exhibitions.  Make an appointment!
